Basics of Supervision

The key to reducing injuries is to increase the number of safe behaviors and decrease the number of at-risk behaviors occurring on the jobsite. Excellence in safety requires the workers themselves to be involved in the safety process.

Claims Management

Wellington at Work has substantial experience in assisting employers in all areas of claims management. In the event of an accident, our consultants ensure that all incidents are thoroughly investigated and reported.

Return-to-Work

You should return injured workers back to work as quickly and safely as possible. This is a key to WSIB cost containment. We know how to make it happen. Our experts are specialists in all aspects of the return to work process, including:

  • Medical releases
  • Direct communication with doctors, physios, etc.
  • Return to work plan
  • On-going plan monitoring and facilitation

OHS & The Law

Ontario’s Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) sets out mandatory minimum requirements, including:

  • monthly workplace inspections
  • quarterly Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings
  • Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) orientation
  • Hazard identification and precautionary measures.

As an employer, you are required to:

  • Take every reasonable precaution to protect the health & safety of your workers
  • Ensure the competence of supervisors and workers
  • Meet minimum standards for workplace conditions (building, equipment, environment, etc.)
  • Set policy and objectives annually (in writing)
  • Be aware of and enforce minimum standards and company policy

Experience Rating

An Experience Rating recognizes a firm’s accident experience, providing a financial incentive to promote workplace health and safety. There are two types of formulas: prospective (MAPP) and retrospective (CAD-7 and NEER.)

Your NEER, MAP or CAD-7 statement contains valuable information about your account. Can you tell if you will be facing surcharges or penalties? We can review your statement and help you identify potential areas for cost relief as well as future cost containment strategies.

Behavior-based safety

A behavioral-based approach to safety shifts the focus onto what people are actually doing, not just procedures. This proactive procedure aims to improve behavior before an accident occurs, using interventions to decrease unsafe behavior.

Wellington at Work will help your firm define critical behaviors that lead to the largest number of injuries or near misses. We will then assist you in observing the action, and analyzing, graphing, and tracking the data.
